Located in Les Promenades Beauport, Les Maltcommodes restaurant has a beautiful terrace (rare in the area) that I decided to try a hot Friday night summer.

I was delighted with the sunny terrace, but I knew I could not live the whole experience with the atmosphere we wanted to convey, but hey, you have to make choices. Speaking of choice, I had the impression that our Maltcommodes are not only tanants but also have difficulty to decide on their identity and that they wish to please everyone ... From the beginning, we are offered two menus: One of microbrewery and the other on stone. I am mixed about these two cards, because it looks like two separate restaurants. In a certain sense, I understand that we want to fill two types of clienteles, but there are risks to not being fully assumed. You can not be excellent in everything.

On our side, we leaned for the microbrewery menu. After having tasted it, I have the impression that it is the one that was created "to please" and to be more affordable. He lacks love and passion. On this side, we suggest classical entrees, tartars, burgers, grilled cheese, etc. At the menu on stone, we choose a protein (shrimp, tuna, beef, deer) that has been seared and then finishes cooking in front of us on hot stones. The experience seemed interesting, though I did not see the advantage.

The map of the beers however has me much more. The Maltcommodes brew a dozen homemade beers and also leave room for other promising products from different breweries. I would have liked to taste a homemade beer, but the one I cherished (cherry) was no longer available.

As I like the humor, I appreciated the little jokes on the menu, they hang a smile and we see that the establishment does not take itself seriously (although the menu "on stone" is in contradiction, Since it is wiser).

As we opted for the microbrewery ambience, we started with a nacho to share. Very generous, I liked it. The corn chips were crisp and the topping nice. The jalapenos put my mouth on fire, but I appreciated this entry. Then, at the main course, I chose a "puck of tartare". I opted for tuna, mango and sesame. I had the water in my mouth! In accompaniment, we leave the choice between French fries, chips or salad. I felt like fresh, so I favored the salad, but it was served to me in a plate next to it, which I found cumbersome, because there was enough space in my dish so that, It shall be deposited therein. My companion preferred homemade chips (also served separately) which proved to be delicious. By attacking the tartare, I had a little disappointment. Where was the seasoning? Unfortunately, it promised so much, but it was simply bland. A spoon of hot sauce was served with the tartare, I imagine to leave the choice to the customer to dose to his taste, but it is absolutely not the same when the seasoning is not directly added to the preparation. The same was true of my companion who had chosen the deer tartare.

All in all, I enjoyed my evening and there is a lot of positive in this restaurant. I want to go back to live the second stone cooking experience. I would feel like going to a new restaurant. Maybe this one would convince me more?
