Located in Bécancour halfway between Quebec City and Montreal, all this 10 minutes from Trois-Rivières, Auberge Godefroy has been a must-see destination for over 30 years. The site is splendid, the decor is modern and the hotel has a spa and a large garden. No wonder several lovebirds chose the place to get married. It is in this chic 4-star hotel that we also find a divine gastronomic table.

I will not hide my love for local products and here, that is exactly the guideline of the executive chef. Although we offer a 3 or 4 course table d'hôte as well as an affordable 7 course tasting menu, it is also possible to have only one dish à la carte and be amply satisfied. As I was fortunate enough to stay at the Inn in one of their beautiful suites, I was entitled to a 4-course menu in my package.

Homemade smoked salmon

I like smoked salmon, but I'm still picky on the latter. When it is sliced ??too much finally and the smoky taste is too present, I am lost. However, I was intrigued by the mention of "our smokehouse" that I chose this starter served with julienned tomato flesh and avocado vinaigrette. The subtle smoky taste and thickness of the fish instantly won me over! But it was the delicacy and the softness that completely charmed me. A stunning entry without big surprises, beautifully presented.

Since I know my appetite today and don't like that feeling of extreme satiety, I preferred the homemade granita to the steaming pot on the second course. It was a raspberry granita and alcohol-free apple must that was served. Pleasant, but without great artifice.

Plate for seafood lovers

On the main course, I gave it a try. I spoiled myself by treating myself to the most expensive dish on the menu: the seafood trilogy with garlic flower. The plate included a lobster tail, two shrimp, two scallops, a pan-fried mushroom, asparagus, leek and cherry tomatoes as well as lobster-stuffed ravioli in a creamy whiskey sauce. A dream for any seafood lover like me!

On the plate, which perhaps lacked a bit of color in the presentation, the golden palm goes to scallops. Cooked to perfection, seared and golden, I think they are the best I have ever had. Good sizes, the prawns were tasty, but no wow effect. The lobster ravioli, however, was divine. Well filled in the pulpit, they were sublime. The overly lingering tarragon aroma did bother me, however, without spoiling my experience. The lobster tail, while remarkably presented and easy to eat, was slightly overcooked for me. It must be said that I have a clear preference for pliers.

Chocolate finish

For dessert, chocolate is in the spotlight and all the desserts are invented and cooked on site by the restaurant's pastry chef. Although the space in my stomach was rather tight, I let myself be tempted by the Passion choco-choco, a crunchy nougat cream, topped with a Guayaquilmd cream, dark chocolate icing. Needless to say, the whole thing was very sweet, but the presentation was worth it. The little crunch provided just enough to balance the dose of sugar brought by the chocolate. You can feel a little inspiration from the famous praline rocks.

So I got up, very satisfied with my pleasant evening, already looking forward to coming back the next morning for a delicious à la carte lunch. Maybe I'll have the chance to taste their delicious homemade smoked salmon on a bagel again, who knows?
