Even if the Saint-Sauveur district in Quebec City is slowly revitalizing, one cannot help but notice that the small restaurant is a bit out of place in the area. We are even a little surprised to see him there, in the middle of a residential area, but oh how happy!

From snack bar to gourmet restaurant

You should know that his first vocation, over 20 years ago, was a snack. Over the years, however, the restaurant's cuisine has refined itself to now offer a creative and avant-garde table. As it is today, Le Fin Gourmet could very well have been located in a more trendy district, on Cartier, Maguire or even Saint-Joseph, but I am ready to bet that this is what makes the charm of the place, which makes it unique and intriguing ... And we will tell ourselves, we are happy, because the price of the site would certainly have been seen in the cost of the plate. This is undoubtedly what makes it possible to savor fresh, local and varied market cuisine for very affordable prices.

Addicted to Accras

On the menu, though quite small, everything looks delicious. It's the cod fish that are in my favor for the entree. A popular dish that I have already tasted in several places, but which becomes an excellent point of comparison. My instincts did not deceive me, because the accras are revolting! Really ! The best I have had the chance to taste. Rather than the smooth stuffing you usually find in accras, here you smell the big chunks of fresh cod. A most popular texture! Used to being served with a little spicy mayonnaise, here the accras are rather accompanied by an emulsion of fresh herbs. The perfect match! This is a concrete example of how to take the experience of a common dish up a notch. Hats off! And I didn't tell you about the vegetable pickles that came with it, did I? An ideal balance between sugar and vinegar. "On the boat! ", To use the expression of my lover who shares this entry with me.

Generous main dishes

The table is set ! Our expectations are high for the main courses. We start with the salmon tartare. Another classic of bistro menus, but we manage to surprise us once again by offering it with a garnish of yogurt, sea buckthorn and dill. Everything works wonderfully! We are not reinventing the wheel, we serve it with fries and salads. But what fries! Summer snack texture, less frying oil. A delight! And a colorful salad, very fresh with a succulent vinaigrette! We are in heaven! On the second course, were we going to be disappointed? Not even ! Deliciously seared and seasoned cod on a bed of Israeli cuckoos in a creamy portobello, squash, kale and parmesan sauce. Happiness!

After having enjoyed myself so well, I understand why Le Fin Gourmet has been around for over two decades. Friendly cuisine, local products and attentive service, this is the secret of this family restaurant run by a master's hand, not two women of passion, a mother and her daughter.
