Creativity is not what's missing at Rideau Rouge, this lively street restaurant. We leave the sidewalks crowded a few moments and we go down in this landmark that seems almost clandestine. Located in a basement, we already feel that the place is out of the ordinary.

By pushing the door, the personality of the restaurant jumps us in the face: we are elsewhere! Quickly, we locate the small scene with its purple curtain from which comes the name of places. The tables are arranged near the stage and disc pockets on the ceiling mark their territory. The place is laid back and we are very welcome. We understand right away that we come to party! When I was there, however, it was at dinner time, but I had no trouble imagining the electric atmosphere that should vibrate in the square at night. Around me, most people were in a group, it is a nice place to unwind from work and we offer a lunch menu at a low price.

At first glance, the menu looks like many others: pizzas, burgers, poutines, etc. But when we look more closely, we realize that it's the opposite! We have fun in the kitchen! Starting with the original Mr. Miyagi Special Poutine wrapped in an imperial roll dough and fried in oil. Still! Attention, we do not stop there, the Burger Vice Hidden is, meanwhile, stuffed with dark chocolate, topped with French sticks, confit of grapes with port, julien apple and topped with foie gras in dishcloth with spices. It is not banal! And what about the two monsters: the Godzilla, a 10-inch hamburger garnished with a kilo of ground beef and 21 slices of bacon and the King Kong Poutine alone with 2lbs of homemade fries and 2 cups of cheese in grains. Phew ...

If you like things that are out of the ordinary, you're in the right place! Rest assured, however, it is possible to eat more "standard" dishes. And that was the case during my visit. Unfortunately for you, I went during the Mac'ncheese week and the tasted dish is no longer available, but it was delicious. A tasty macaroni wrapped in a rich creamy sauce and two Kraft dinner fries! I could still taste the classic burger. Ketchup, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, bacon, nothing more traditional! When it's done well, you do not have to reinvent it! The burger was doing a lot of work.

For dessert, it was impossible for me to miss the signature dish: the mars fried bar. I admit to having had some apprehension at the beginning. There are limits to make everything fry and say that I try to remove more and more what is bathing in the oil of my stomach ... but as to be there! Presented as a pogo, dessert makes you laugh! Then ... he makes you smile! Frankly, he is very good! I was almost embarrassed to admit it ... the bar of chocolate having become completely creamy and wrapped in a crispy dough vaguely reminded me of the taste of the beaver tails ... to taste absolutely!

The Rideau Rouge is taking the test, a beautiful and trendy place that, in addition, offers a program of truly varied shows. To discover!
