Tasty Breton pancakes accompanied by a house beer served on the terrace or in a magnificent seaside-inspired decor… we can say that Chez Swann's Crêperie Du Côté has a winning recipe.

With more than 17 years behind the tie, the little restaurant has given itself a facelift and a spectacular expansion. Formerly erected in the heart of the charming village of Saint-Antoine-de-Tilly, it is only a few meters further that the establishment moved in 2020. Now housed in a completely renovated century-old barn, the place instantly attracts us like a magnet. Not only does the bright red of the outdoor barn catch the eye, but a warm side emanates from the place, giving us only one desire: to enter.

Warm decor

Inside, the decoration has been carefully selected, with obvious attention to detail. Two separate dining rooms are offered, including a more pub side where the bar is located and a tidy room with the open kitchen, allowing us to observe the crepe makers at work from the corner of our eyes. A boutique area is also stocked with a host of local products. On a sunny day, however, it is essential to take advantage of the splendid sun terrace.

Pancakes, pancakes and beer!

On the menu, Breton crepe is king. Available in different classic or creative varieties for the more adventurous, we order it with wheat or buckwheat flour. If this cereal brings back bad memories of your childhood, this is the perfect opportunity to reconcile with it, because the pancake is light and delicious. For my part, I opted for the duck confit pancake, accompanied by a house beer, L’Écume des jours, with lime and basil. Cannot be brewed directly on site, all beers are concocted at the Le Corsaire Microbrewery in Lévis.

The pairing is delicious, the pancake is well garnished with generous pieces of duck, mushrooms and bock choy. Very simple, my plate finishes without difficulty and without the effect of heaviness. My boyfriend is just as satisfied with his crêpe with fresh goat cheese, also stuffed with tomatoes, ham and pesto. A discovery that he greatly appreciates with a lager selected from the guest beers.

Salad where are you?
My only downside is in the accompaniment. As the pancake is announced to be served with a salad, I expected to find a good serving of lettuce topped with vegetables and vinaigrette, but the ration being small, I would have characterized it more as decorative rather than accompanying.

We're running out of time and we can't try the dessert pancakes, but there's no shortage of the urge.
