I have always had a weakness for marinas. I don't have a boat and I don't dream of owning one, one day, but these places are synonymous with vacation and freedom for me. And what about the view of the water that soothes me. The Berthier-sur-Mer marina in Chaudière-Appalaches is one of the most magnificent I have ever seen. Many people come to settle there for a day, folding chair in hand and picnic basket in the other.

For my part, I was going there to take part in a cruise that was going to take me to the historic site of Grosse-Île. Arriving a little early, we had time to have a bite to eat before boarding. Built right on the quay, with a terrace facing the river, the restaurant L’Amiral immediately caught our eye. The sun was already beating down despite it not being noon yet, so we decided to sit inside, not without sitting down at a table with a view of the St. Lawrence.

At the end of the Sunday morning, I wanted to let myself be tempted by brunch, while my companion was leaning more towards lunch. No problem, both were possible. It didn't take me long to choose, the menu included a dish that delighted me: a sweet and salty duo. The ideal compromise for a restaurant lunch, in my opinion! Named Le Catamaran, the plate included an egg benedict, a choice of meat (smoked loin ham for me), butter hollandaise sauce, potatoes with Admiral's spices, as well as a pancake with fresh fruit and maple syrup. Everything to satisfy me! The dish turned out delicious and a big hit with the smoked meat! The potatoes were also tasty. After finishing the egg, I tackled the crepe for dessert. Expecting it to be sweet, I was surprised to find that it wasn't. I was also amazed at the unusual fruit selection: green apples, pineapple, grapes and oranges. I was expecting more of an assortment of berries. Maple syrup also seemed to be missing. In the end, I was quite happy, because I managed to eat it whole without feeling too “stuffed”.

My boyfriend had wisely opted for two starters to make a complete meal: a strawberry, walnut and cheddar salad and a salmon tartare. His verdict? A delicious salad with a crush on caramelized walnuts and L’Isle-aux-Grues cheese. He also really enjoyed the tartare which included crisp green apples inside.

L’Amiral, a restaurant to visit at any time of the day, for the view as for the plate!
