The best food in Montreal
Last week, I ordered from Cap Carbon using Uber Eats; the restaurant advertised a BOGO ("Buy One, Get One") promotional offer of two beef shawarma pita sandwiches ("Beef shawarma pita special" on the app) for 16.99 CAD, before tax. This restaurant's menu clearly shows a single beef shawarma pita costing 9.99 CAD. 17 CAD divided by 2 is 8.5 CAD; you are buying two individual beef shawarma pitas for 8.5 CAD each. This is a very slight discount, not an actual Buy One, Get One free offer, and there is no option to buy a singular pita at 8.5 CAD. BOGO offers allow people who cannot afford to eat out often a special treat every once in a while, and they also allow the restaurant to give back to its community while clearing inventory that would have otherwise gone bad, wasting the time and resources of every person who was involved in the supply chain responsible for all of the ingredients. Instead of promoting this mutually beneficial arrangement, Cap Carbon takes advantage of hungry people in an economic recession. This is a predatory practice, and the restaurant owner could simply use Uber Eats' discount function to lower the price from 9.99 to 8.5 for a single pita. This is a promotional offer, while what the restaurant is doing is false advertising. However, seeing this restaurant's 5-star rating, I decided to see if one could justify this "special" offer on the basis of quality. For reference, I have eaten at several dozens of shawarma places all over the world, and the quality of these sandwiches was completely unacceptable. Bits of the meat were so chewy they could not be swallowed without gagging, and the seasoning was not authentic in the slightest- too much parsley, and not reflective of my experience with food in the Middle-East. The meat was cheap, the bread was cheap, and the sandwich wasn't tasty at all; I couldn't finish it, leaving it half-eaten. To the restaurant owner: what you are doing with "promotional offers" is highly unethical and possibly illegal, even if unenforced, and I have taken photo/video evidence along with my receipt. You are taking advantage of your clients, who are keeping your business afloat in the current economic context, and the food was completely subpar. I cannot recommend Cap Carbon in the slightest, there are much better and cheaper shawarma spots.
Love the food!!!
Had the chicken wrap in sajj bread and beef wrap in kebab bread, dressed with all ingredients and they were very good. Garlic potatoes also on the side were flavorful. I wish we had more kebab style wraps similar to this in ottawa. Central bergam was probably the closest thing before they closed.
Great place to have fresh and delicious burgers and Kebabs.
