What’s best on a May Friday night, after a busy week at work, than being at the Pilsen for a beer, a burger and their Belgium fries directly on their terrace at the water's edge? That's what we did.
Located in North Hatley, on the shore of the Massawippi River, this pub restaurant offers its guests three terraces: one in front, a large one at the back for busy evenings and a final one really close to the water. It is on the latter that we took advantage of our early evening contemplating the ancestral homes of North Hatley and the few boats passing on the river. And with a good beer in hand is always better.
We stopped our choice on a red microbrewery beer, the Massawippi. Moreover, their menu offers a wide selection of microbrew beers and other popular beers. Their wine option is also filled with very interesting choice for amateurs.
While consulting the menu, we noticed the beautiful choice of starters, but after much hesitation, we instead decided to save our stomachs for dessert. In addition, we noted a children's menu, which greatly surprised us, because for us the Pilsen is a pub and we would never have thought of bringing our children there. We may try the experiment later.
For main course, we both had the Pilsen Burger containing Swiss cheese, bacon, onions, sauteed mushrooms, tomatoes and arugula. We must mention that the vegetables were particularly fresh and the sauce inside heightened the flavors of the whole.
All this was of course accompanied by their excellent Belgian fries. The thought of these fries made us drool all day. They are crisp to perfection and the spices leave a good taste in the mouth and encourage us to eat them until the last. But, the portion is so impressive that we can not do it till the end!
Accompanying these wonderful fries, commercial mayonnaise served in the traditional small plastic container. In our opinion, as the fries are the specialty of the house, we would have preferred a mayonnaise of the same quality like a homemade mayonnaise.
Finally, our choice of dessert stopped on Massawippi pie and apple pie. The first consists of espresso ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate sauce melting. It was refreshing and sweet, but for coffee lover. As for the second, it is made of apple pieces topped with an almond crumble. Ok dessert, nothing more.
Throughout the evening, we received very good service, friendly and prompt. We anticipated a long wait on this beautiful Friday night being given a previous visit where we had waited a long time.
In conclusion, our evening at the Pilsen was relaxing and delicious. The terrace on the waterfront offers an oasis of peace and allows us to not think of the daily routine. The burger, fries and beer always fulfill our expectations and lovers of pasta and grilled meats will also love this.
