As part of these restaurant reviews, we decided to show you another side of going out to the restaurant: in family, with our three young children including an eleven months baby. Our first stop was the Café Pierre Jean Jase, in downtown Sherbrooke.

We've been here a few times, as a couple, and we have always been very satisfied. But for this first family visit to Pierre Jean Jase, that was a disappointing experience.

First, when we arrived, the restaurant was filled to capacity and, in addition, people were waiting for a table. The staff was trying somehow to respond to everyone, practically running. This is after waiting twenty minutes, in line with impatient and hungry children that we finally were directed to our table. Besides a regular at the place, came after us, without reservation, without children and without her group’s present in full, has passed in front of us! If we knew that it was going to be that busy in this first March Sunday morning, we would have reserve.

Fortunately, to calm the impatience of our children, the games’ corner of Pierre Jean Jase is effective. This small moment of relaxation has allowed us to take a few sips of coffee and orange juice. After another delay of several minutes, we were finally able to receive and view the menu.

Other disappointments: the jams cart was empty and we did not have cream cart for coffee. When we finally receive, the coffee was almost cold.

The Kids menu was rather limited: an egg, choice of meat, toast and juice ($ 5.95) or pancake with apple or banana and chocolate or fruit and juice ($ 7.95). Our two older chose the chocolate banana pancake, but when ordering, the waitress told us that there was no more chocolate... which raised the ire our daughter! So they changed their choices for egg and pancake with fruit.

Fortunately for our little hungry, juices and food arrived quickly. The pancake, with a lot of fruits, was accompanied by a plain yogurt and maple syrup.

On our side, we opted for eggs and bacon and Café’s special (which includes two eggs, a végépâté, cheese, choice of meat, toast and potatoes). Apart from a slightly runny egg, all was good and the portions were correct.

In conclusion, we certainly were disappointed about that breakfast, but due to our satisfactory previous visits, it is a restaurant that we recommend anyway. We believe it was a day like no other.

The neighborhood atmosphere restaurant, home cooking, relaxed service, value for money and weeknights burgers are worth visiting. For our part, we will try again the family breakfast experience of Pierre Jean Jase, but by booking our table in advance. The exception does not prove the rule!
